Vor den Inseln unterm Wind
Before the Leeward Islands
wo die Himmel bleich und öde sind
where the skys are pale and bleek
träumend tanzt das müde Kind
the tired child dances, dreaming
Sturmwind dreht es rasch im Kreise
tempest spins it fast around
nimmt es mit auf seine Reise
takes it on his journey
helft mir Wolken fleht es leise
help me clouds it faintly begs
In den weichen Wattegrüften
In the soft white cotton vaults
voll von fernen fremden Düften
full of distant foreign smells
schläft das Kind hoch in den Lüften
