This photo was taken in 1989 at a pacific beach in Washington
State (USA) near the small village La Push, west of Seattle. It was
an overcast day with strong wind producing an even more ghostly scenery at this
beach littered with giant tree corpses. I positioned my tripod
close to the water’s edge in order to take a photo of a huge tree trunk
that reminded me right away of a primeval dragon. When I had just
taken my first photo of it and wanted to move on, I noticed my at the
time five- year-old daughter Lea, who came from the left, walking
very slowly, into the picture. This way a first rate nature photo
turned into something well beyond, for that reason: “Chronos”
