Structures in varying shades of grey, like intestines….. roughly like this were my first thoughts starting the work. Choosing the image format happened spontaneously, as usual, just for a change from the image before. Then a quick contour drawing, defining the main elements of the composition, followed by a long and arduous process of detail work in the various parts of the image, some which are primarily areas in which the element of drawing dominates while others are characterized by painterly aspects. Adding to this various shades of grey relate to areas of the most intensive colorfulness. In technical terms the use of many self-created digital tooltips, a whole bundle of specific digital means but seamlessly integrated with classic drawing techniques. Partially put side by side in a way that pure hand work looks like a specifically digital result and vice versa. There where, especially within the last third, sometimes a couple of month long breaks in order to find really new structures, worthy to progress with. It lies in the nature of this work that it must become harder and harder the more of the image is already created. I would indeed rather throw away an image, than to “finish” it light handed. Thus the process of creation of this piece stretched over a period of two years.
